South Australia ... or the windy state

So it's been a bit...  let me catch you up now that I have both power and internet...

We stayed at Sawpit where I last left you for 6 nights.  Then we crossed in to SA.

We stayed the night at Mt. Gambier Showgrounds to recharge the batteries and have hot showers.  Can I tell you what a fan of hot water I am.  We packed up the next morning and headed to the blue  lake... which is very very blue.  I'm not talking normal blue like deep water - I mean vibrant blue.  I'm not sure the pictures really do it justice.

From there we started to head across the coast and up towards Mclaren Vale.  We met some interesting travellers on the way.

 The Big Prawn!

We found another member of the Dingo pack.

We spent the night at White Feather Red (our favorite Mclaren Vale winery) and helped out a bit around the property to get ready for harvest, the moved on to Frank Potts Reserve in a slightly smaller and hillier wine region a bit east.

There we picked up the awesome TINY pears and debated Kangaroo Island.

On 18/02/18 we took the ferry with our truck and trailer and crossed the small space of Backstairs passage to KI.

Our first night, we stayed at Browns Beach just to the east of American River.  The next day we moved on to Discovery Lagoon campground.  We ended up working out a deal with the owners for our accommodation in exchange for camp upkeep.  And began our month of janitorial duties LOL.

In that month we explored the whole island...

From the great little brewery down the road, the fantastic swimming beach at Emu Bay, honey from Ligurian bees (who appear to be the happiest most non-violent bees on the planet), to Seal Bay, Admirals Arch, and Remarkable Rocks.

We even went to raptor world and hung out with some pretty cool birds.

Our camp had a resident echidna and some rather curious wallabies and kangaroos, but the koala left a few weeks before we got there.

Closing in on the end of March, we decided that when Tony returned from visiting his son, we would move on from KI.

So with a good deal of sadness at the departure, we took the ferry back to the mainland and started to head north to get across Adelaide.

The first night, we stayed just south of town in Pink Gum campground.  It was so very windy...

We moved on the next day to Port Parham on the northwest side of Adelaide.  We stayed here for 4 nights.  Pat learned to crab fish and mostly we just enjoyed the peace when we weren't being blown away by the forceful coastal winds.  We had lovely neighbors and warm days.  It was really quite nice.

Day before yesterday the gale caught up with us again and there was practically no sleep with all the blowing. so we decided to move on.  It also helped cement our decision to turn this trip into a figure 8 rather than a normal lap.  So we are headed to the red center.

The upcoming month will be the Flinders Range and the Oodnadatta track along with bits of the Stuart and the town of Cooper pedy.. where pretty much everything is under ground because of the intense summer heat.

Today, I'm sitting in Bunyip Park in the town of Koolunga.  We decided to take the day to do updates and bookkeeping and will be again on the way tomorrow.
